Why Fire
Hydrants Make The Best Pets:
- We don't need to
be fed
- We never make a mess
- We're loyal: We'll
never run away or get lost
- We're obedient: We
can sit and stay indefinitely
- We're helpful: We
love to put out fires

You can paint
me any color(s) you wish as long as you
follow these guidelines:
- Clean me up first.
You may have to do some sanding
to get me ready for paint.
- Please paint me in
good taste. I don't want to offend
anyone, so no camouflage or religious
symbols please.
- Please make sure I'm
visible at night.
- Please paint me with
high-quality industrial enamel.
- Please don’t
paint my threads or my caps will
stick.
- Remember, you can
paint me, but you cannot alter my
mechanical operations.
- Please do not add
any special devices to me.
How To Take Care Of Me:
- During the summer,
please keep an eye on me so nobody
vandalizes me or opens my caps.
By doing so, you can ensure I will
be able to assist firefighters when
they need me most. Please keep the
grass and or weeds mowed around
me for better visibility and access.
- During the winter
months, please keep the snow below
my line of vision so I can keep
a watchful eye on the neighborhood.
This will also help firefighters
find me quickly when they need my
help!
- If I start to drip
or leak, call City Hall at 509-285-4020
as soon as possible.
